Threads and chat

A thread is one conversation with your agent. You type a message, the agent works on it, and its reply, files and progress stay in that thread. This page covers starting threads, who can see them, and everything you can do in the message box.

01

Start a thread

Press + New thread in the side rail (or + New above the thread list) and type what you want done. The thread shows as New thread until the first message names it.

To rename a thread, hover over its title and press Rename. To find an old one, use Search threads… above the list: it matches names, categories and what was said. The filter button narrows the list by category and visibility.

02

Who can see a thread

The person who started a thread sets who can see it, from the visibility button in the thread's header:

  • Private — only you
  • Shared — specific people: pick teammates from the list.
  • Public — everyone with agent access

If someone sends you a link to a private thread, you see This conversation is private; only the person who started it can add you. Who has access to the agent at all is set on Members (see Members and roles).

03

Tasks and notes

On a wider screen, beside the message box is a Task / Note switch. A Task is a message the agent responds to. A Note is a human-only note — the agent will not respond: use it to leave context for your team in the thread without starting any work.

04

While the agent is working

You don't have to wait for a reply to add something. Under the running task, press + add context, type it, and press Queue. It shows as queued: Queued — sent the moment the current task finishes. Remove it with × before then if you change your mind.

If you send a new message while the agent is busy with other work, it waits in the thread marked Queued — sends when the agent finishes a running task; keep this thread open.

To stop a task, press cancel on it while it is running.

05

Attach files and dictate

Press the paperclip (Attach files), drag files onto the message box, or paste a screenshot. A very long paste is attached as a file for you. Files go with tasks, not notes.

To talk instead of type, press the microphone (Record a voice message) or double-tap the Control key. Press again to stop; you can play the recording back or throw it away before sending. The message shows Transcribing… and then the text, marked Transcribed from audio.

06

Branch and work side by side

To take a conversation in a new direction without losing the original, press branch under any finished message. A new thread opens with a draft that points back to where it came from; edit it and send.

On a wide screen, hover over a thread in the list and press the two-panel button (Open beside the current thread) to read two threads side by side.

07

Mention teammates

Type @ and pick a person who has access to this agent. A message with a mention is sent as a note by default (Sending as note — has @mention), so the agent doesn't pick it up; switch to Task if you also want the agent to act. The person finds it in their Inbox under Mentions. See Inbox and approvals.

08

Proof that a change is live

When the agent ships a change, the reply carries a deploy receipt: a small chip reading Deployed · … with where it went, which version, and whether it is healthy. Green means the running version shows the change; amber means it needs a look. Hover over it for the full line.

09

Talk to it from Slack

If you connect Slack, you can also message the agent in its Slack channel. The console works without it. See Slack app setup.

10

What to ask

Say what you want done, what “done” looks like, and anything the agent can't guess. For example: “Compare these three venues and recommend one” or “Ask me before you send anything to a client.” Getting good results has more.

ℹ Info:Tell it “remember that…” and the agent keeps the preference for future threads. See How your agent works.
